Original hand-painted botanical designs for fabric, bedding, wallpaper, home decor and stationery.
Over a decade of licensed collections.
Licensed by Brands You Know
Every design begins by hand — painted in acrylics and watercolour, or illustrated with markers, pens and pencils. I hand-build my own designs, patterns and repeats rather than relying on digital shortcuts or AI, which is what gives my work its depth, warmth and movement. My work has been licensed across textiles, bedding, homewares, gifts, stationery and wallpaper — including collections and licensed designs with Spotlight, FreeSpirit Fabrics, Aero Images, Pier 1 and John Sands.
Every design begins as an original painting — no digital shortcuts, no vector tracing, no AI. That hand-painted quality gives my work a depth, warmth and movement that translates beautifully onto product, and it's what sets a Kirsten Katz design apart.
If you're looking for artwork with real character for your next collection, I'd love to work with you.
Why brands work with me
In a market increasingly full of AI-generated and auto-traced artwork, my work is genuinely made by hand. Every design begins with real brushwork or hand illustration — painted in layered acrylic and watercolour, or drawn with markers, pens and pencils in my Sydney studio. It's not generated on a screen; it's created by hand, then refined with care, drawing on an eye for detail, colour and composition developed over a career in textile and surface design.
That means designs with genuine depth, texture and life — the kind that can't be replicated at scale, and that give your products a point of difference customers can feel.

Art licensing is how brands and manufacturers use my artwork on their products — legally, and with my permission — without ever owning the artwork itself.
Here's how it works. I keep full ownership and copyright of my designs at all times. Through a licence, I grant a company the right to use a specific design, on a specific product, in a specific place, for a set period of time. In return, I'm paid — either a flat fee, ongoing royalties, or royalties with an advance. When the agreement ends, the right to use that design returns to me.
Everything is set out in a simple written agreement so both sides are clear on exactly what's included.
A few terms you might come across:
Licence — permission to use a design on a product, promotion, or service. Not a sale — I keep ownership.
Licensor — me, the artist and owner of the artwork.
Licensee — you, the company using the design under agreed terms.
Agreement (or contract) — the written terms we both sign, setting out what's licensed, where, for how long, and for what payment.
-
I license my artwork — I never sell it. I retain full copyright and ownership of every design and painting at all times.
Non-exclusive licence The design can be licensed to more than one company at the same time, including on the same type of product. This is a flexible, lower-cost option and a great way to bring one of my existing designs to your range.
Exclusive licence You become the only company permitted to use that design within an agreed scope — for example, on a specific product category (such as fabric, or bedding), in a specific territory, for an agreed period of time. Outside that scope, and once the term ends, the design remains free for me to license elsewhere. Exclusivity is arranged design-by-design and priced accordingly.
I don't offer buyouts of any kind. Copyright and ownership always remain with me.

As the designer, I retain all copyright and ownership of the artwork and all derivative works at all times. All artwork is the sole property of Kirsten Katz and is held under copyright.
The images, artwork, and contents of this website may not be copied, collected, or used for personal or professional gain without written permission from Kirsten Katz. All images of artwork, sold or otherwise, are retained by Kirsten Katz.

As the creator of the artwork, I hold moral rights under Australian copyright law. These remain with me at all times and are separate from any licence. They include the right to be credited as the artist, the right not to have work falsely attributed to another person, and the right to the integrity of my work — meaning it may not be altered or used in a way that would harm my reputation. Attribution as the designer is expected on licensed work unless otherwise agreed in writing.
Non-Exclusive Licensing
With a non-exclusive license, you can incorporate my artwork into your products while I retain the right to license the same designs to other companies. This option is ideal for brands looking to add unique visuals to their product lines without the higher costs associated with exclusivity.
Benefits for Your Brand:
- Cost-Effective Access : Non-exclusive licenses are generally more affordable, allowing you to allocate resources efficiently while still benefiting from high-quality art.
- Flexibility : This option provides the flexibility to test new designs and see how they resonate with your audience without a significant upfront investment.
- Enhanced Product Range : By licensing diverse designs, you can quickly expand your product offerings, making it easier to cater to varied customer preferences.
Exclusive Licensing
An exclusive license gives your brand sole rights to use a particular artwork within a defined market or period. This exclusivity ensures that no other company can use the same artwork, giving your products a unique edge in the marketplace.
Benefits for Your Brand:
- Market Differentiation : Stand out from competitors with exclusive designs that are unique to your product line, enhancing brand identity and consumer appeal.
- Strategic Control : Exclusive licensing offers greater control over the artwork's use, allowing for tailored marketing strategies that align with your brand vision.
- Increased Value : Products featuring exclusive artwork often command higher prices, boosting your brand's perceived value and profitability.
